8. Turner Lane, Brunthwaite, Silsden, Leeds Liverpool Canal, Riddlesden, Silsden, Swartha, Cocking Lane

16.4 miles, 3965 feet of ascent (25.9 km, 569.6 metres of ascent)

A ride over Addingham Moorside, down through Brunthwaite, then along the Leeds Liverpool Canal to Riddlesden, before climbing back up to Rombalds Moor along towards Silsden, returning to Addingham via Swartha, Cocking Lane and the old Ilkley Road.

Started by riding up the village and then taking Silsden Road to the roundabout on the bypass. warning Go straight across the roundabout and take the first left up Turner Lane to the cross roads at the top, turning right, before then turning left to follow Lightbank Lane under White Crag along the ridge towards Silsden. This is followed by a long down hill stretch through High Brunthwaite and Brunthwaite to a cemetery where it meets up with Howden Road.

Turn left at Howden Road and after a short while take the first right down towards the canal (note: there may be a road closed sign at this road but it is open for cyclists and pedestrians to access the canal towpath). At the canal go over the bridge and turn left. Follow the canal towpath which is fine for all types of bike, just a little rough and muddy in places. warning There are plenty of pedestrians to navigate and on weekends, in particular. watch out for anglers with their long poles. There are also a couple of semi-busy roads to cross in Riddlesden to follow the towpath.

After approximately 3 miles, in Riddlesden, look out for the Marquis of Granby pub, just over a canal bridge on the left hand side. Turn left over the bridge up Granby Lane and then another left onto Banks Lane. Follow Banks Lane all the way up onto the moor at a T-junction with Silsden Road. Turn left here and follow the road towards Silsden (warning note there is a very steep downhill section with a sharp left hand turn so watch your speed at this section).

At the cemetery before dropping down into Silsden take the right (which you came down earlier in the ride) and cycle up the hill. However this time continue straight on at the junction to Brunthwaite heading towards Swartha. Cycle through Swartha and continue to the T-junction with Brownbanks Lane. Turn right here and cycle up the hill past Brownbanks Caravan Park on the right. Continue on this road passing Turner Lane on the left onto Cocking Lane and then all the way downhill past Small Banks until reaching a left turn which goes past Lumb Ghyll Farm on the left and down to the junction with the bypass. warning Carefully go straight across the A65 to the old Ilkey Road and turn left to follow this road back into Addingham.
