2. Ilkley, Langbar, Beamsley, Bolton Bridge
13.4 miles, 2200 feet of ascent (21.5 km, 565.5 metres of ascent)
A ride taking in the Middleton side of Ilkley with stunning views over Ilkley, Addingham and Bolton Abbey in the Wharfedale valley.
Started by riding down the village and then following the old Addingham to Ilkley Road towards Ilkley. At the end of the old road it is necessary to join the main Ilkley Road for approximately 1 mile. Entering Ilkley turn left to go over the old bridge with views up and down the River Wharfe. Cycle along Denton Road past Ilkley RUFC, Ilkley Lido and out towards Askwith.
After about 3/4 of a mile turn left at Carters Lane for the climb up to Middleton. Follow this road with views on the left down towards Ilkley and across to the Cow and Calf and Rombalds Moor. Turn right at Hardings Lane for a further climb up to Langbar and then follow this road through Langbar and continue below Beamsley Beacon before the descent down to Beamsley.
Turn right at Beamsley and follow the road to meet up with the main Harrogate to Skipton A59 where a left turn involves a brief stretch of this main road to pass the old Bolton Bridge and arrive at the Bolton Abbey roundabout. A right turn here takes you into Bolton Abbey where there are a number of cafes, the Devonshire Hotel and the abbey itself. Our route takes a left at the roundabout to return to Addingham (note this road can be very busy on weekends, bank and summer holidays).
